Lift and Separate: A Novel by Marilyn Simon Rothstein
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Didnt think I would love this book. Just isnt my genre – BUT I loved it. How many things can go wrong in ones life? Just ask Marcy Hammer. She thought she had a great marriage only to find out her husband is cheating on her….he’s sorry, she takes him back – then his mistress is pregnant. That isnt enough but her mom falls, breaks her ankles – finds out she has cancer! And dont get me into what her daughter is doing.
This book is so refreshing and delightful to read that I finished it in 3 days…(that’s a record for me). I would have given it 5 stars but the ending left me hanging – I wanted more and more! Cant wait for October – when her next book comes out – Pass the Brownies. Sometimes it pays to read new authors.

I did it today. Grandson C called me, and asked what I was doing. Having just returned from the supermarket I was waiting for my delivery so I was just having a cup of coffee while I waited.
“Want to Toss?” Now you have to understand that C has not tossed for me for about two months. I thought he didnt want to do it anymore (not an easy job) and so I just consoled myself with not doing this part of my business. But alas it was summer vacation and what 13 year old wants to hang out with grandma when he can be playing, sleeping, watching tv or hanging with his friends.
So when he called I was delighted to not only work my business but also to see him. After the groceries were delivered I called him to tell him I was on the way. Picked him up and went through the neighborhood with a bag full of 25 books to toss. When done he asked for more, there went the second bag and finally one more time – the third bag was gone – approximately 60-70 books were tossed today.
What is tossing? Well as an Avon Rep I purchase brochures for my customers and then some. I am always looking for new customers so I always order extra. I give out books to people I meet whether in a store, restaurant, nail salon – I even leave them in laundromats. But somehow there are always extras that I don’t get to give out……these get tossed. Into the driveways or on the steps of neighboring houses with my information for people to contact me or even order online.
And that is part of my business – I love it because I get new customers and I get to see my grandson as we go through the neighborhood – we get to talk about our day, how summer is going – to me it is quality time. I also do mailings but it is the personal aspect of tossing that I like. Of course there are always people who don’t like you tossing books on their lawn or in their driveway – but they are few and far between. Doesn’t everyone like brochures to browse through? Wouldn’t you? Contact me to get yours! Next mailing will be in September! Contact me today at www.youravon.com/ashapiro or shop my online book here.
I am in love with free shipping codes and discounts codes. In fact before I purchase anything I go to various sites that offer these codes. I have made $125 purchases for only $70 because of codes that I research first.
So it’s no wonder that I always offer my customers codes to do their online shopping. Such as:
First time customer? use code WELCOME10 for a 10% discount.
Customers ALWAYS get free shipping on any $40+ order – no code needed.
I also offer Avon dollars to special customers who get me referrals – just like cash they can use it on their direct orders with me.
So now that there is another code for only a $25 purchase that I am sharing with you – but remember it is only for 3 days – so get your orders in soon and use the code below at www.youravon.com/ashapiro
This book is a series. So I suggest you read Everything We Keep first or you will be lost. I had to read the next book because once James disappeared the previous book leaves you with the feeling that Aimee is going to find him. But what we dont know now is that James has become Carlos and living in Mexico in a state of fugue. I didnt even know there was such a thing and looking is up made me better understand what James/Carlos was going through.
Again this book has some surprises, romance and a lot of anger – between family members….and lots of secrets. Keeps you turning the pages BUT the reason it didnt get 5 stars is that it keeps jumping back and forth in the story between Carlos in his present state and then when he realizes he is James and doesnt remember a Carlos (fugue state)….this is not a book to put down and pick up a day or two later. You need to continuously read this book so you dont lose track of what is going on….
Reading? As an avid reader I am always carrying my Kindle around with me. That is one of the reasons I carry a tote bag….besides my Avon books and samples, I find my Kindle stuck in the corner of my bag because you never know…..you may be sitting somewhere waiting (arent we always waiting for something) and it becomes an opportunity to read.
We recently took in a Broadway show – drove all the way into the city in snail traffic but managed to arrive 1/2 hour before they opened the doors…..and waited – and read…..
I have been searching blogs that write about reading, not only their reviews but also what they think of reading – how they get reading done within their day. And I started to think about how much people read. One blog said she wanted to read 5 books for the month of June and ended up reading 9. It used to take me 2 weeks to read a book, therefore I could only claim about 2 books per month.
In addition to reading I am also posting reviews…..on Goodreads.com, this blog and my other blog…So please feel free to follow me and check out my reviews.
But now that I am retired, I find there is more reading time – or am I just making more time because I know I can do other things tomorrow….Ahh, that word “tomorrow”….while I have used it in regard to laundry, cleaning and cooking……I have never said I would read tomorrow…and on that note I will end and ——go back to reading!
I am a junkie for free. I always log on, sign up or download things that say free. Buy one, get one free. Free books (especially e-books) I’m your woman. So when I offer free – where are all the takers?
When someone shows interest in my website and registers with me – I send them #free samples along with #free codes that gets them #free shipping and #free items.
I love #free so much that I often leave samples in stores that I frequent. Recently I entered a Dunkin Donuts and by the time I left with my coffee the samples were all gone. That is the way I get visitors to my website and orders via online. If someone doesnt want to touch base with a face to face order for me – then they can go online, get free shipping and discounts – and their order will ship in two days. You also get the next campaign brochure free as long as you ask for it.
So, what’s wrong with free? Contact me if you would like a free book, free samples or order online and receive free samples as a thank you.
