No time for…..

Reading?  As an avid reader I am always carrying my Kindle around with me.  That is one of the reasons I carry a tote bag….besides my Avon books and samples, I find my Kindle stuck in the corner of my bag because you never know…..you may be sitting somewhere waiting (arent we always waiting for something) and it becomes an opportunity to read.

kindle

We recently took in a Broadway show – drove all the way into the city in snail traffic but managed to arrive 1/2 hour before they opened the doors…..and waited – and read…..

I have been searching blogs that write about reading, not only their reviews but also what they think of reading – how they get reading done within their day.  And I started to think about how much people read.  One blog said she wanted to read 5 books for the month of  June and ended up reading 9.  It used to take me 2 weeks to read a book, therefore I could only claim about 2 books per month.

In addition to reading I am also posting reviews…..on Goodreads.com, this blog and my other blog…So please feel free to follow me and check out my reviews.

But now that I am retired, I find there is more reading time – or am I just making more time because I know I can do other things tomorrow….Ahh, that word “tomorrow”….while I have used it in regard to laundry, cleaning and cooking……I have never said I would read tomorrow…and on that note I will end and ——go back to reading!

I am addicted

OK I admit it – one of my favorite addictions is reading.

But while I love mysteries and thrillers, I have come across an author who

Write romance and suspense

And she has completely caused my addiction to her novels

I dont know where she gets her ideas, but each and every one of her books are thrilling and page turners

I started with The Last Stand series TRUST ME, STOP ME, WATCH ME

On to the Stillwater Trilogy – DEAD SILENCE, DEAD GIVEAWAY AND DEAD RIGHT

My next series will be the Fairham Island series – THE SECRET SISTER & THE SECRETS SHE KEPT

What author are you totally hooked on?

My Sister’s Secret

My Sister’s Secret: An addictive, gripping and emotional read by Tracy Buchanan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

My Sister's Secret: An addictive, gripping and emotional read

Loved this story. When I first started it I found it jumped between 1988 and 2016 – not my favorite type of read. I get confused jumping back and forth….so I had decided this was a 3 star book. But the further I got into the book the more I followed the lives of these amazing three sisters, Faith, Hope and Charity. The story centers around the death of their sister, Faith, and the effect it had on the whole family – the choices they made in life, their feelings and their questions. It finally ends with Charity’s daughter, Willow, and the secrets she uncovers about her parents, and her family to finally bring this story to a peak of surprises. Definitely pumped it up to a 4 star book.

Brush….powder, eyeliner & more

No matter what makeup you use, you will somewhere along the line find a need to use a brush.  Several different brushes for several different uses…You might need a cheek brush – for that color you need on your cheeks.  Maybe you would like a powder brush – that foundation goes on so much better with one.  We all need lip brushes – its not your mom’s lipstick anymore.  Eyeshadow goes on so much smoother with a brush also.  My favorite is concealer brush….you get to that age when a little concealer does wonders.  Who here uses a brow brush?  Not me personally but some people do.

brushes

Ever price all those brushes.  They could add up to a pretty penny.  But Avon know what you are going through.  So in this campaign they have put all their brushes on sale….what do you pay for a brush?  Even your local pharmacy has them so much more than Avon….and with Avon you dont have to make the trip to the store….Avon brushes go from $2.49 to $5.49 for a single brush….my local pharmacy had them for $4.99 to $9.99.

Check out Avon from the comforts of your home and get them now while on sale…..in my online brochure

Dont forget to register also so you can get notified of more sale items and be placed on my mailing list for catalogs and/or samples.

The Bad Girl

The Bad Girl by L. Donsky-Levine

The Bad Girl

When I was sent this book by the author to give an honest review, I wasn’t sure I would like it. It didn’t seem like my type of book. Especially when I received a note from the author saying “Just as a footnote, the book is a gritty and realistic snapshot of life; which means profanity and a small smattering of some graphic imagery are necessary in order to stay in that lane. I just wanted to give you that heads up before you dive in.”

I am far from a prude, (and I live in NY – seen it all) so I went ahead and read it….actually I dove into it…If it wasn’t for my other responsibilities I would have finished in a day. Riley’s life is one that is all too common in this day and age. No parents to take care of her, she lives on the streets, barely getting by and doing whatever she has to in order to survive. (Gritty comes in here) But after she gets kicked out of her apartment and becomes sick, she is befriended by an old man who turns her life around.

I would have given it 5 stars except the ending threw me – it came as a surprise and at the same time it left me hanging….or is there a sequel to this book….what happened to Riley after that powerful ending? A quick and thought provoking read….

Review of Lowcountry Stranger

Lowcountry Stranger by Ashley Farley

Lowcountry Stranger

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bravo…another great book in the series and understand #3 is coming soon. I want the Sweeney family to adopt me. This is a family with three sisters Faith, Jackie and Sam who involve themselves in each others lives – they take care of each other and their families and are always there no matter what the situation. And there is plenty of drama in this family. From dying friends, to long lost husbands, to abducted children, to love lost but found again. If you read the first book in this series, you know what I am talking about…you must read the first book (Her Sisters Shoes) and then continue to this one. You wont be disappointed. Cant wait for the third book in this series.
